A path of knowledge of the Italian cultural heritage linked to food | GIs – Italian cultural heritage

The exhibition is a path of knowledge of the ltalian culture heritage linked to Geographical lndications, created as part of the Qualivita Cultura a project  designed in collaboration with Aicig and Federdoc.

A patrimonialization process based on a cultural construction that focuses on those PDO and PGI agri-food and wine productions able todevelop. reinvent and reinforce over time the link between products and territories with the complex of sociaI, political and economic institutions and with that of artistic and immaterial activities.

Food cultures never static and constantly renewed and accompanied by new symbolic values also thanks to the constant work of protection Consortia and companies in the enhancement of products and in the work of rootins with the context of origin.

The exhibition offers 24 tables, examples selected from over 800 ltalian PDOs and PG/s which symbolize the link between food and culture – artistic and architectural heritage, literary works, illustrious personalities and much more. Emblematic cases selected as part of the Treccani Gusto initiative,  a research project carried out in 2018 in collaboration with the Treccani Encyclopedia lnstitute to testify how products with a designation of origin have been a central element in national identity for centuries.

The Geographical lndications show not only unique qualities and organoleptic characteristics, but also the ability to crystallize in memory and in culture, history, symbols, arts, literature and many others activities: they also reaffirm how the POO PGI Regulation conceived by the EU back in 1992 with the aim of consolidating rural development in marginai areas and protecting agri- food and wine products also represents an evolved food labeling process capable of making European culture a common heritase and spreading it over time and space.
