17.07.2008
Parma, Italy, 17 July 2008 – Sales in pre-sliced packets of Parma Ham are continuing to rise, having increased by 8.8% in the first half of 2008. There has been a real boom both in Italy (up 13.1% with more than 7 million packets sold) and abroad (up 7.1%, equaling 18 million packets exported). Practicality, quality and versatility are ensuring the continued success of this product, which is being taken up all over the world. The primary overseas market remains the UK, where the Consortium’s companies sold more than 6 million packets in the first half of 2008 (up 2.7% in the same period for the previous year). Results have also been excellent in France (up 3.9% with 3 million packets sold), Belgium (up 12.4% with 2 million packets), the Netherlands (up 214% with 820,000 packets) and in Northern Europe (in Sweden, in particular, more than 400,000 packets were sold, showing an increase of 67.8%). “Pre-sliced Parma Ham is the area that is giving us the greatest satisfaction. Since 2000, sales have skyrocketed. They have quadrupled. We ended 2007 with about 50 million packets produced and 24.6% growth. Now, in the first half of 2008, sales are already showing a rise of 8.8% compared to the same period last year,” comments Stefano Tedeschi, President of the Parma Ham Consortium (Consorzio del Prosciutto di Parma).
