The Parma Ham Festival - September 2005
19.07.05
Parma, 19th July 2005 - The Parma Ham Festival is expanding. This year, the eighth edition of the show dedicated to the "King of Ham" will be spread out over two separate weekends, a definite sign of the growing success the Festival has enjoyed over the years. From Friday 2nd to Sunday 4th September 2005, the Festival will be held in Langhirano, Lesignano de' Bagni and Tizzano Val Parma, while the following weekend of 10th and 11th September the show will move to the towns of Sala Baganza, Collecchio and Calestano. Also this year, the main Festival event will be the initiative "Finestre aperte: sulla strada del Prosciutto" (4th & 5th and 10 & 11th September) which involves the entire production zone. The ham factories that have joined the initiative will open to the public: inside Parma's cathedrals, guided tours and sampling of products will be held in order to illustrate the hams' processing phases that thanks to the magical combination of climate, tradition and passion become Parma Hams. The involvement of the "Strada del Prosciutto e dei Vini dei Colli" is also important. This is a wine and food itinerary that brings together the territory and companies within the Parma Ham production area and will offer products in a few Festival ham shops In the Festival's main centers numerous "ham shops" will be set up, open air restaurants, where besides authentic Parma Ham, you can sample Emilia specialties and of course, washed down with "Colli di Parma" D.O.C wines. Another addition to the Festival will be the possibility of visiting the Parma Ham Museum recently opened in Langhirano inside the historical building of the ex "Foro Boario" (http://www.museidelcibo.it/prosciutto.asp). A welcome return also to the meeting with the Tasting Laboratories and Workshops: seminars where you can taste Parma Ham together with some great national and international wines. As well as the events that are mainly dedicated to the awareness and tasting of Parma Ham, the Festival also offers displays, shows and entertainment initiatives that each supporting town will organize in its own territory and which are shown on the Festival's program.
