Parma Ham pre-sliced packet: a success!

Parma, 26 October 2004 – Pre-packed Prosciutto di Parma is experiencing continued growth, closing the third quarter 2004 with a 16.2% increase. Throughout the first nine months of 2004, companies belonging to the Parma Ham Consortium have sold 564,000 kg of ham in Italy (+18.1%) and 1,533,000 kg abroad (+15.5%). We can safely say that pre-packed Parma is encountering a real boom: at the moment pre-sliced ham represents roughly 20% of export, with about 18 million packs sold every year. Great Britain is solidly positioned as the market leader for pre-sliced Parma having sold over five million, three hundred thousand packs (504,300kg), once again showing a very significant growth rate of (+5.5%). Other growing markets are: Germany (+16.2% with 152,300 Kg), Sweden (+22.5% with 24,300 Kg) and Norway (+27.6% with 23,600 Kg). Among those markets that are outside the EEC, the Japanese market stands out having passed from 10,200 kg to 20,000 kg (+95.8%). “We are enthusiastic about these third quarter 2004 results – said Alessandro Utini, president of the Parma Ham Consortium – pre-packed Parma is in constant growth, the results are brilliant, especially in Great Britain, Scandinavia and Japan. We’re closing the third quarter with a good increase of 16.2%”.
