Pre-sliced Parma Ham is constantly incrementing its sales: the pre-sliced product conquered the market by closing the first seven months of 2004 with a +14,1% equal to 1.588.177 Kg sold for a total of 15.537.779 packages. The trend is positive for the Italian market (+14,2% equal to 411.473 Kg for a total sale of 3.922.371 packages compared with the 360.172 Kg equal to 3.589.184 packages in the same period in 2003) as well as for export (+14,0% equal to 1.176.704 Kg for a total sale of 11.615.408 packages compared to 1.032.127 Kg equal to 11.034.574 packages in the same period of 2003). Today, pre-sliced Parma Ham represents 20% of the exports (about the same as 1 million and 700 thousand hams) versus 12,5% of five years ago. Abroad, the largest consumers of sliced Prosciutto di Parma are without doubt the British people, with over 388.000 Kg of product purchased equal to a little over 4 million packages (+5,4% compared to last year). Following are France, Switzerland, Germany and USA. We would like to point out a constant increment of sales on the Japanese market +60,8% (13.287 Kg equal to 109.933 packages compared to 8.263 Kg equal to 88.819 packages in 2003) and in the Scandinavian market: in Sweden the sales increased by 30,7% (18.839 Kg compared to 14.417 in 2003) while in Norway the sales reached an amazing + 52,8% (19.465 Kg compared to 12.743 in 2003). “The increment in our exports in the past few years has been determined mostly by an overall increment of the pre-sliced ham market.’ states Stefano Fanti, director of the Prosciutto di Parma Consortium, ‘We are extremely satisfied with the results reached so far. In fact, we just closed the first seven months with an increment of +14,1%, registering two digit rates in some of the most important European and external European markets”.
